The HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccine is a recombinant vaccine.
This means it's a non-infectious vaccine created from purified virus-like particles (VLPs). These VLPs are made from the L1 capsid protein of the HPV virus. While they look like the real virus to your immune system, they don't contain any viral DNA, so they can't cause an infection or disease.
By introducing these VLPs, the vaccine stimulates your body to produce antibodies. If you are later exposed to the actual HPV virus, these antibodies will be ready to fight it off and prevent infection.
